Shavuot Recipes

We’ve rounded up some fun recipes to take the guesswork out of your interfaith holiday menu!

by Jewish Gentile Couples I June 6, 2024

Would a Jewish holiday even be a Jewish holiday without food? Even Yom Kippur, a holy day associated with fasting, is partially planned around the meal you’ll get to look forward to at the end of the day. We think Shavuot is one of the best Jewish holidays because of two delicious traditions: eating dairy and putting two loaves of challah on the table.

And celebrating holidays as an interfaith couple has enough challenges—the menu shouldn’t have to be one of them. So, we put together this roundup of fun and simple recipes for Jewish-Gentile couples. Try them out whether it’s your first Shavuot together or your fiftieth!

Cheesecake

Jenn Segal is a professional chef-turned homemaker living in New York. Her recipes are tested, tried, and true. With the promise of being better than New York deli cheesecake but also easy for the everyday cook, her recipe looks to be worth a try!

Vanilla Ice Cream

We’re big fans of the cooking website Our Best Bites. Sara’s recipes are easy, fun—and colorful! Heads up, you will need an ice cream maker. But choosing one is the hardest part of making homemade ice cream!

Cheese Blintzes

Tori Avey shares Mediterranean and Jewish cuisine on her blog. Actually, she has recipes for every Jewish holiday! Her blintzes are basically crepes filled with sweetened cheese, and Tori’s blog walks you through the process of making them. (We’ll take two, please!)

Challah

Though it’s tradition to make two loaves for Shavuot, you may not want to plan on having any left over. (At least, that’s what Elissabeth experienced at The Taste of Kosher!)

Elissabeth promises to keep things simple. And that’s just what we think bread should be.

We hope you enjoy trying some of these. And since we’re already anticipating next year’s Shavuot, send us your favorite recipes, too!

Whatever you choose to cook, have fun and beteavon (Hebrew for bon appetit)!
